WICKED DUB DIVISION
Progetto nato nel 2014 dall'unione di nomi storici
e conosciuti nel panorama dub italiano: Michela Grena,
voce dei B.R.Stylers e Wicked Dub Division, dub trio attivo da dieci anni. La band compie una ricerca musicale, miscelando suoni caldi e ipnotici a sfumature più wicked
e minimali. Dopo l'iniziale esperienza The rootical dub session, in omaggio al reggae roots delle origini rivisitato
in chiave dub, WDD & Michela Grena si sperimentano
creando brani inediti e uno stile personale, arrivando così
a dare alle stampe la loro opera prima, "Dub Drops"
(Autoproduzione, Aprile 2015). Il disco viene preceduto
da due singoli, “Autumn drops” e “How many women”
da cui viene tratto il primo video clip ufficiale della band. Dopo un primo anno di concerti e già importanti traguardi (Apertura concerti 99Posse, Dub Inc, Twinkle Brothers, Showcase Rototom Sunsplash 2015..) nel luglio del 2015, Wicked Dub Division vincono il Premio della Critica
al concorso “Voci per la libertà” indetto da Amnesty International Italia, con il brano “New Slavery”. A Marzo
del 2016 Michela Grena partecipa all’HeartBeat Festival come vocalist Zion Train, a Gutalajara – Messico, combination che si ripeterà nel settembre del 2016,
per l’intero tour tedesco degli Zion Train con Michela
Grena alla voce. Sempre a Marzo del 2016 esce
il secondo album dei WDD dal titolo “RED”, preceduto
dal singolo “Freedom” ed è recentissima l’uscita del nuovo video, una studio live session del brano “Roots And wings”.
Started in 2014, this project was born out of the union
of two well-known and established names on the Italian
dub scene: Michela Grena, the voice of the B.R.Stylers,
and Wicked Dub Division, the dub trio active for ten years.
The band performs what could be described as a musical experiment, mixing hot and hypnotic sounds with more wicked and minimal beats. After the initial experience
‘The Rootical Dub Session’, in homage to the origins
of reggae roots revisited in dub, WDD & Michela Grena experiment by creating new songs and bringing a unique style to their first released work, Dub Drops (self-
produced, April 2015). The album is preceded by two
singles, Autumn Drops and How Many Women , which also
marks the first official video from the band. In less than
a year the band has achieved numerous important goals and performed on many stages across Italy and beyond, opening for the Twinkle Brothers, Dub Inc and 99 Posse as well as playing at Rototom Sunsplash in Spain. In July of 2015 they won the Critics Award in Amnesty International Italy’s 'Voices for freedom' contest, with their song New Slavery. “ Red” is the name of their last album ( self-produced, March 2016) came out with two singles, “Freedom” and ”Roots and Wings” both with their official video. During 2016 Michela Grena had the opportunity
to be Zion Train vocalist in March 2016 (Heart Beat
Festival, Guatalajara - Mexico) and in September
(Germany Tour - Dresden/Berlin/Hamburg/Leipzig)
